Bird and Fiddleheads by Andrew Daniel

When I lived in Maine it was a seasonal practice to go collecting "Fiddleheads" which were young ferns that had not yet uncoiled and were still tender for saute cooking. I thought of putting them in the back of this little watercolor painting as a little way to remind me of my roots.

I think the bird is a Wren, but I would love to hear from you if you have a better guess.

"White Crowned Sparrow" by Andrew Daniel

This a a painting I made from a great photo my friend Sean McAlpine took. We used to go for lots of hikes with out cameras, when he lived up here. I wanted to make a painting from one of his photos as a way to remember our time together. He has an extensive photographic portfolio on his website.

Pink Rhododendrons by Andrew Daniel

Every year as the flowers start to bloom, I end up painting them, because I love the color and compositional opportunities that they bring. I also really enjoy the process of wandering around my community looking for inspiration! I'm particularly happy with this canvas because of the movement in the brush stoke, there is a certain raw kinetic energy to it.

IF you are interested in purchasing this painting or other cards and prints please take a look at my Etsy Shop.

Saint George Seascape Painting Andrew Daniel

I got to spend a lovely morning on the coast of California, just North of Crescent City this summer. I was up there camping with the family on the Trinity River and it was possible for me to slip away and take in the cliffs at Saint George. I was really enjoying the yellow wheat color of the cliffs, so I decided to stop and stare into the distance for a few hours....

Impressionst ARCATA BULB FARM Painting Andrew Daniel

I made this painting sitting in my car along the roadside next to the Sun Valley Floral Farm in Arcata, California. I often return to the larger Arcata Bottoms area to paint, because the landscape is wide and open and the color hues are so subtle. Ahh, I wish I had time today to get out there!

Papaya and Lime by Andrew Daniel

I painted this piece at Frances Kuta's studio in Eureka, CA. She did a nice job of setting up the still life. I don't often see orange and green combined in plien air painting. It makes for a vibrant combination! There is something happening with the brushwork that inspires me to paint more still life pieces.

Painting Irises - My Second Video of painting.

This is my second video, I'm learning a lot, sorry for the lighting and focus problems..... Please let me know what you think! Any suggestions?

I'm trying to use a loose spontaneous brushstroke in this painting. I was watching a painting video by Richard Schmid and I noticed that he holds his brush in many different ways, to vary the mark.. I am also focusing Using strong contrasts in color and value to make the painting pop!

It's hard to paint irises without thinking of Van Gogh, I guess he has kinda branded the bread.

I'm having fun, so subscribe to this channel and you can watch me develop.
THANKS FOR WATCHING!
