oil on canvas by Andrew Daniel
available at my online shop
I've been trying to push myself to paint the environment as well as the model at the weekly figure painting sessions. This is something that I have been thinking about a lot and recently wrote about on my other blog.
On this day, one of the other people in the group, Fran Kuta, brought this lovely pink Kimono, it reminded me of some of the orientalism that was commonly painted in the late 1800's.
This piece was painted in oil on canvas. It measures . I have signed it on the front and back.
Gorgeous! I like all the purple grays. And the pillows and fabric really balance her well.

I liked reading your ideas about the model and his/her surroundings. It is indeed a challenge to paint portraits that connect with the viewer because of the natural disconnect that occurs i.e. "who the heck is this?" lol. You have succeeded in capturing this model beautifully; the beauty (colors, stroke, composition) is what connects me to this painting although I do not know her.
