"Camel Rock" oil painting by Andrew Daniel

"Camel Rock" by Andrew Daniel
oil on board 6" x 10" 15cm x 25cm
Bid on this painting here.

This painting was created on a sunny day near Trinidad California. I pulled off the road to paint some of the sea stacks hit by morning light. Straight ahead is "Camel Rock" with the two peaks and too it's right is "Unpaintable Rock" as my friend John Crater likes to call it. I was especially interesting in the color of the sky reflected in the wet sands as I painted this scene.

I wanted to paint this day, but the sky was gray and the drizzling, then I came across this vibrant field as I was returning home. The colors were so vibrant and lush for the middle of winter. It was lovely to spend a couple of wet hours observing the subtle changes in yellow hues, rather then returning home to be cooped up.

This is a painting of a 1910' mug shot depicting Charles Ponzi, who created the Ponzi Scheme. In which he took money form investors and used it to pay off other investors, meanwhile never actually investing the money. As long as more money was coming in the scheme worked. I enjoyed reading his biography in wikipedia. Seems he was jailed several times without learning his lesson.

"I landed in this country with $2.50 in cash and $1 million in hopes, and those hopes never left me,"

This painting measures 7" x 5"(18cm x 13cm) and is painted in oil paint on a piece of Baltic Birch wood panel that measures 1/2" deep.
